About Me

I’m Jess. If you need a more formal introduction, I’m Jessica Brooks. Also known as Jessums, Brooksie and Bossika. I've been based in Mongolia since 2006 and it remains my home although I'm from Devon in the UK and return there throughout the year.

Swimming is a passion. My love of books is life long as is my support of public libraries and book shops. And if I had ever had a goal it would have been to either be a librarian (I even bought my glasses based on that they (almost) make me look like a librarian) or own a small coffee shack on the coast somewhere that sold books.

So obviously, here I am in Mongolia, a land locked country, having founded a social enterprise focusing on tourism. Life certainly has its twists. I’m don’t consider myself a natural business woman. I have no background in management. Or business. Or marketing. Neither did I go to university. Well, I did. But I left. Earlier than expected.

I’m also not completely comfortable with this whole idea of self-promotion through a website. For Eternal Landscapes Mongolia a website is necessary. But for myself? We’ll see. Anyway. This is not a money earning travel blog. Neither is this a ‘how to’ guide on how to run a business. And I’m certainly not a social media influencer. Instead, this is just somewhere I can write my thoughts.

Be warned though, my life is very messy and so are my thoughts. There will be a lot of
randomness. I have unfinished projects, long term goals, short term achievements, missed deadlines, lost opportunities, outstanding work and numerous to-do lists that as one job gets ticked off, so it is replaced by two more. My head (and desk) are never clear. (So I thought, why not throw in a personal website as well just to add to the load?!).

A second warning, I also seem to run my business through quotes …
• ‘Whatever you do will be insignificant, but it is very important that you do it.’ - Mahatma Gandhi
• ‘The greatest failure is a failure not to try’ - from an article on reviews
• ‘Rise above the rest.’ - my Dad’s RAF cap
• ‘If you get tired, learn to rest, not to quit.’ - from a poster on the tube
• ‘If you endeavour then fate will favour you.’ - from a Mongolian proverbs

As Eternal Landscapes Mongolia was set up on a wing and a prayer, so is this website.

Let’s see where this heads. Care to join me?

PS. There will be typos. I can go over the top with exclamation marks. I sometimes get my punctuation confused. I apologise in advance …
